Programme for Cape Town Book fair Revealed

It's time to dust off your diaries and pencil in the events you plan to attend at the third Cape Town International Book Fair.

This year's programme offers something for everyone, with events taking place on the exhibition floor for almost every minute of the four-day book extravaganza and a host of discussions that will be facilitated outside of the main exhibition are in the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 14 to 17 June.

Here are just a few of the highlights to wet our appetite:

In the Forum

On Saturday join Michele Magwood in the Literary Forum when she chats to Marina Lewyca, the bestselling author of A Short History of Tractors in the Ukraine, it's at 11am in the forum.

Isabel Dixon was born in South Africa and has gone on to become a top literary agent in London, she represents some of the biggest South African writers being published overseas, but she has another string to her bow: a wonderful collection of poetry that will be launched at the Fair. She will be in conversation with John Maytham, SAFM presenter in the forum at noon on Saturday.

The Forum is an open space for discussion from heavyweight political debate to the story of Riaan Manser who took a bicycle ride around Africa, just because he could, and the great news is that the bicycle will be there. Expect talk, debate and a good few laughs with Alexander McCall Smith author of the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

But it's not all about grown-ups ....

Any number of studies will tell you that one of the best ways to help your child get ahead in life is to introduce them to the joys of reading. On Saturday at Stand C19 at 10am join  Speech and Hearing Therapist, Author, Editor, Teacher, and Mother as she explains how story time can be made into a magical journey of exploration for the whole family.

Feeling Green?

Well it's not just about visiting the recycling depot once or twice a month, turning your life into one that is as carbon neutral as possible is no longer a luxury for the greenies. Its' a necessity if we want to our world to survive the looming energy crisis. Find out more about how you can make a difference with five fascinating books that form part of the Green Collection at this year's fair. We like the look of Diary of a Reluctant Green: Can you Save the Planet and Have a Life? And How to Turn your Parents Green, and no we don't mean with envy because you kids know how to programme the remote for the decoder.

As we said, just a glimpse of what is going to be entertaining, educating and getting tens of thousands of people talking at the Book Fair.
