Innovations abound at this year's Cape Town Book Fair! CTBF is proud to introduce the Pick 'n Pay Chef's Theatre, where top chefs will demonstrate their favourite recipes. Included in the delicious line-up of chefs are Reuben Riffel, Phillippa Cheifitz, Carmen Niehaus, Christine Stevens and the effervescent Evita Bezuidenhout, to name a few.
The CTBF is also spreading its touch into the city, with events that include discussions over high-tea in conjunction with the Mount Nelson Hotel Literary Salon Series. The discussions will be held by Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, and best-selling authors Jodi Picoult and Chris van Wyk.
Talking of ‘touch', Digicape and Project 3 are generously sponsoring six highly desirable 32MG iPod touch devices as prizes to be won. Anyone can enter by completing an entry form at the Registration Kiosk at the fair. The draw will take place at the close of the fair and winners will be notified by phone or email.
And keeping it digital, CTBF is excited to introduce an e-Publishing seminar where a panel of experts will discuss the explosive growth of eBooks, Kindles and ePublishing.
And the firsts keep coming ... CTBF is introducing a special Trade and Professional Day on 30 July 2010 with a professional programme for all exhibitors and trade visitors. The Trade Day aims to provide a platform for exhibitors and trade visitors to identify new business opportunities and meet potential business partners from around the world. On offer are matchmaking sessions for global authors and publishers, translation service guidance, seminars and guided tours. Participants can relax and enjoy undisturbed discussions in the rights and business lounge.
In addition, Jacana Media will be hosting the Jacana Jamboree across the city with events at the fair, the Michael Stevenson Gallery, the Book Lounge. Lobby Books, The old Drill hall at the Central Library and Labia Theatre, among other exciting venues.
CTBF Director Claudia Kaiser said that despite the pressure on wallets due to the economic downturn, the power of the written word has proved its strength yet again and the Cape Town Book Fair promises to be a roaring success.
* Over 270 exhibitors from 34 countries have registered for the CTBF - more than last year - and registrations are continuing. Overseas exhibitors come from Germany, India, Korea, China, and many other countries. There will also be a strong Arab presence, with the largest stand taken by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage.
