How to Use Grammarly on Google docs

Grammarly installation and setup

Open your Google doc after signing in your Google account. By downloading Google Chrome extension, you can use Grammarly in Google docs. Installing the extension for Google Docs in Grammarly is the option available to work in Google Docs. 

The next step is to install Grammarly extension for Google Chrome from Chrome Web Store. You need to click “Add extension” when prompted. Now the option left would be “Remove extension”, which indicates the extension was added. 

Now the Extension installation is complete and you can start to use Grammarly in Google docs.

Using Grammarly in Google docs

Once the installation is complete, the Grammarly icon needs to be turned on or turned off in the navigation bar in Google Docs. In addition, customize the review settings if needed. If you have chosen to turn-on, the option a message pops-up to “TAKE A QUICK TOUR”. There is always an option to skip it by clicking on “NO THANKS”. 

The extension would start to work if already signed in thro’ Grammarly online. If not, you need to create an account for free to get started. The upgradation of subscription to Premium or Business is possible anytime later.

At the bottom right corner in Google Docs, you get an icon, which suggests the number of edits in the document. You can either accept an edit by hovering over the selection or reject an edit by clicking the “ignore” icon. Grammarly scans the document as and when you write which will help to correct the mistakes. There is an option in the dialog box that points the number of mistakes in a red circle Grammarly have indicated. The RED underlined words are the errors indicated by Grammarly. To correct the errors, hover over the cursor on the RED underlined words and select from the suggestion shown. There is an option to edit the text by each point. 

The number of errors in red circle at the bottom right corner of the page would start to reduce as you correct or ignore the indicators shown by Grammarly. In the corrected document, the icon turns GREEN. 

Two additional hidden controls:

  • Leave feedback – leave a feedback for the Grammarly team to analysis
  • Disable on the website – Allows to temporarily turn-off Grammarly.

Adding of new words to the personal dictionary is possible by customizing personal dictionary.
